Earlier this decade we were commissioned to design and construct a dairy to accommodate a 50-cow rotary platform, plus a yard capable of holding 400 cows. The outcome was – as we hope you would expect! – successful… to the point where the project was featured on Action Steel’s website.
Action Steel – like GreenCon – is a family-owned business, and has been a trusted partner on numerous projects. Situated in Stawell, in Victoria’s Northern Grampians Shire, Action specialize in crafting, manufacturing, and installing large farm sheds for livestock and cropping across Australia.
According to Action, the exceptional cleanliness and hygiene of the dairy are stand outs; attributes largely attributed to methodical planning and design. While these activities almost always unfold behind the scenes – with benefits that may take years to fully materialize – this phase of any construction project perfectly embodies the essence of the proverb, “a stitch in time saves nine”. Planning and design are things James and GreenCon’s team spend a lot of time on, because once it’s right – it’s right for life.
Getting those upstream things correct means delivering a milking process that flows seamlessly at every stage. And in the real world, it’s that that represents the cornerstone of any dairy’s long-term success. The dairy needs to consistently deliver what the client paid for; not just for a few years but, more often than not, for decades.
Action further elaborates on several key factors contributing to the overall success of the project. Among these, notable mentions include: (a) meticulous site selection and preparation, (b) strategic layout planning and the optimization of access points, and (c) a dairy design that prioritizes shed hygiene and efficient effluent management.
