Last year they broke a 23-year drought. And this year???… proved 2024 was no Bull.
On Saturday 8 March Cobden’s Knights beat Pomborneit’s Bulls – their grand final opponent for the second year running – in the South West Cricket Association’s division one cricketing premiership final at Camperdown’s S.A Wright Oval.
As reported in The Standard, it was the defiant seventh wicket partnership between Cobden’s star all-rounder Anus Uwland and teenager Eddie Walsh that proved the difference. The pair dug in for a gritty 69-run partnership to put the Knights into the box seat, after Uwland found himself paired with Walsh with Cobden’s chase on its knees at 6 for 33.
As Cobden’s captain Johno Benallack said after the match,
“I thought we were probably gone by then, but the boys dug in… We knew it was possible but to get over the line in a grand final’s pretty hard work so it was awesome by the boys. I think Eddie Walsh is only 16 so it’s a bloody great effort”.
GreenCon has supported the Knights for over a decade and was again its major sponsor for the 2024-25 season. And we couldn’t be happier.
Like last season, James, GreenCon’s Managing Director said it was a delight to be associated with the club.
“It embodies so many of the same values GreenCon has – we are more than happy to support what is a really, really well-run community club.”
And to see them winning the banner for the second year on the run?
“Well, they’ve made the grand final three years in a row. And won the flag for the past two so, like Johno said, that’s a bloody great effort!”
Indeed. A bloody great effort.
And that’s no bull.
