In early 2022 we completed constructing a bridge on the northern end of the 19 km long Poorpa Yanyeen Meerreeng Trail (formerly the Twelve Apostles Trail). The trail runs from Timboon to Port Campbell, as a southern extension of the Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail. The bridge offers trail users a safe journey above Power Creek, at the eastern end of Glerums Road – about 2 km south of Timboon.
As Brooke Love, the then Corangamite Shire Council’s Director of Works and Services mentioned, the bridge connects the trail sections that run through the Power Creek Reserve. It allows trail users to remain safely elevated above Power Creek and offers an all-weather trail asset that’s open for use all-year-round.
Working in concert with Civilnow, we managed the bridge’s construction using GreenCon’s in-house engineering expertise spliced with the day-to-day worksite supervision of Steve Mitchell – one of our experienced construction supervisors. Things went well, though like every construction endeavour the team needed to introduce novel solutions to deal with emergent issues.
As Steve said “In the construction industry you’ve got to stay on the balls of your feet. You need to be able to solve the challenges you’re guaranteed to face on any given day. They’re all part and parcel of the industry – and getting to beat those challenges is one of the reasons why I love it!”
