GreenCon was delighted to support this years South West Dairy Ladies Luncheon, held at Deakin University’s Warrnambool campus earlier this month.
Having been held every year since 2015, the Luncheon continues to evolve and grow in popularity. In fact, the 320 tickets to this year’s event sold-out in record time, a testimony to the event’s position on the calendars of the tireless women involved in dairy in the south west.
The day provided an invaluable platform for women in the dairy industry to connect, learn and support one another.
This year’s keynote speaker was Australian netball sporting legend and chair of netball Australia Liz Ellis. Ellis, who lives on a beef farm in New South Wales, thrilled the audience.
“… to walk into a room full of strong, independent women from farming backgrounds today. I thought ‘these are my people’.”
She also appreciated the challenges many in the room faced as they balanced the day-to-day pressures and workload of dairy farming with the challenges of being mothers, wives, girlfriends and partners. But that was where Ellis had found solace in sport – and in her case, netball in particular.
“Lots of you play netball, it’s one of the key things which helps to keep regional and rural communities together.”
“Playing a team sport is great because you think ‘I can’t let my team down’. Going to the gym or for a walk can always be put off, but you have to fulfil your commitment to your team”, Ellis said.
The day was pulled together by an independent committee working alongside the leadership of a committed group of volunteers who are all involved in their own dairy businesses.
The day attracts the support of dozens of businesses from across the south west – GreenCon was thrilled to have been a part of it!
